Event Paused to Protect Resident Birds
Red Creek Wildlife Center has postponed its annual open house due to ongoing concerns about highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The event, which traditionally welcomes hundreds of visitors each spring, allows the public to tour the facility, meet staff and educational animals, and learn about wildlife rehabilitation. Organizers said the decision was made to protect the center’s resident and ambassador birds from potential exposure to the virus.
A Popular Tradition on Hold
The open house has long been one of Red Creek’s signature outreach events, offering guests rare access to behind-the-scenes areas and hands-on educational experiences. In past years, visitors enjoyed guided tours, wildlife demonstrations, and opportunities to learn about the care and release of injured animals. While the postponement is disappointing for supporters, staff emphasized that animal health and safety must remain the top priority.
Plans for a Future Reschedule
Red Creek Wildlife Center has indicated that it hopes to reschedule the open house later in the year, once conditions are deemed safe. In the meantime, the center continues its work caring for injured and orphaned wildlife across Pennsylvania, alongside ongoing education and conservation programs. Updates on a new event date will be shared through the center’s website and social media channels.
