Park Confirms Death of Long-Term Resident
Paradise Park in Hayle, Cornwall has announced the death of Suri, one of its resident red pandas. The park said Suri, who had lived there since 2016 and was over ten years old, passed away recently. Staff described her as “cherished,” noting that she had become a familiar favourite among keepers and visitors alike.
A Gentle Favourite Among Visitors
According to the park’s statement, Suri was known for her shy but gentle nature, often surprising keepers by confidently engaging with guests during the popular Red Panda Experience. These encounters helped raise funds for the Red Panda Network, supporting conservation efforts for the endangered species. Suri lived alongside Jai-Li, her long-term companion, and keepers say they will closely monitor Jai-Li following the loss.
Conservation and Next Steps
The park has not yet released a cause of death, and a necropsy is expected to clarify whether underlying health issues were involved. Staff say Suri played a significant role in educating the public about red panda conservation and hope her legacy will continue through ongoing fundraising and awareness programmes. Paradise Park thanked supporters for their messages and invited visitors to learn more about red panda conservation in her memory.
