Nesting Season Begins
Worcester Cathedral has launched its annual peregrine falcon livestream early this year as resident adults, known to fans as Peter and Peggy, show signs of preparing a nest. The pair have nested at the cathedral for five years, with chicks usually fledging in early June.
Hope for a Stronger Season
Last year was tough for Peter and Peggy, with one egg failing to hatch and three chicks dying in May. Cathedral biodiversity advisor Chris Dobbs said, “These events do happen in the natural world, but Peter and Peggy have been consistently successful parents in previous years. There’s every reason to hope for a better season.”
Follow the Falcons Live
Launching the livestream early allows viewers to watch the falcons from courtship to egg-laying, hatching, and, hopefully, fledging. The stream drew nearly half a million viewers last year and is closely monitored by a project team. Peregrines can dive at speeds up to 200 miles per hour, making their hunting and parenting fascinating to watch.
